Hand Crafted Furniture

As showcased in FineWoodWorking

I'm Marc Springer, a woodworker and furniture maker in the Los Angeles area. I specialize in the design and crafting of one-of-a-kind, solid wood furniture built using hand joinery and milling techniques. My furniture is handmade using entirely, or in the greatest part, only hand tools and traditional joinery. Items are posted as they become available for sale.

Each Piece is Unique & Distinct

All of the furniture is made using traditional hand tools. On occasion a power tool is used, such as the lathe to turn the knobs, which are distinctive to that piece. But for the greatest part by far, the furniture is finished without the use of power tools. There are no band saws, table saws or joiners in the shop.

The wood is hand milled and made flat and square with hand saws and planes. It is then joined and crafted using traditional joinery. Fasteners are only used to hold hinges and to fasten the back of the piece. The entire piece is held together with wood joinery and glue. Hardware is typically sold brass. Final finish is either a smoothing plane finish or a final hand sanding before application of 4 to 5 coats of hand rubbed finish.

Shown is a slightly from the top, side view of a 10 drawer credenza. The top has been dovetailed and joined into the sides and the rails of the piece have been mortised into the sides with the bottom rail having through tenons extending out from the sides 1/2 inch. The entire piece was fabricated from reclaimend redwood by Los Angeles woodworker and furniture maker Marc Springer who works primarily with hand tools.
